Tributes From Principal Stacey Brewer and Coach Mike Wilhelm
Yorktown High School Principal Stacey Brewer informed students and parents of the tragedy in a Monday morning message after receiving permission from the student’s family.
“With great sadness, I share that Chris Wilson, a senior at Yorktown High School, died tragically early this morning. His family has given us permission to share this news. Chris was a valued member of our school, our football team, and our community. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and teammates.”

Because Yorktown schools were on fall break when the incident occurred, school officials advised families to check in with students and noted that counselors would be available when classes resumed. The school also shared crisis support resources, directing anyone needing immediate help to call or text 988.

Yorktown head football coach Mike Wilhelm reflected on Wilson’s character, emphasizing his humility despite considerable athletic success.
“He’s a great football player, but an even better friend and teammate. He was highly respected because he treated others with love and kindness. Uncommonly, he never sought out the attention that came with being a high Division-1 football recruit. He showed up every day and worked hard to get better. Our team has lost a brother, and we will carry him with us forever.”

In addition to his prowess on the gridiron, Wilson was a multi-sport athlete who competed in the discus throw for the Yorktown track and field program. Evaluated as a premier edge talent by major recruiting services, he was listed among the top 150 national prospects by Rivals and held a high three-star or four-star rating across multiple scouting platforms. His death leaves an immense void in the hearts of his family, classmates, coaches, and the entire high school athletic fraternity across Delaware County.
Fellow high-tier prospects also shared their grief online, including five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales, who posted on X that he was stunned by the sudden loss of his longtime peer in the Indiana football community.
