Ready-to-use kits for beginner cybercriminals are sold online for a few hundred euros. The products, called Scama like Scaming Method, are offered on Telegram loops in particular by pirates keen to reap more profits. And if phishing, or phishing, is a technical watch, it is always successful. In the last quarter of 2023 alone, this type of scam increased by 173%, according to online security company Vade Secure.

Sending fake links

Sending false messages or fraudulent links to click… phishing can take several forms. Here, cybercriminals offer to sell email templates or fake sites to trap victims. They pretend to be an institution or a company and send text messages or emails, sometimes in the hundreds, with a redirection link to a fake site. The goal is for the victim to enter their banking data and steal it.

A 26-year-old young man was arrested by the Parisian cyber crime brigade (BLCC) of the judicial police last week. He is suspected of being behind the “Fast scama” account which resold scam kits on Telegram for between 75 and 300 euros. This kit included the real contact details of potential victims and links to hacked web pages. Only the seller is being prosecuted for the moment but the buyers may be prosecuted at a later date.

Check the link to protect yourself

Earlier, in 2023, it was a high school student who resold tailor-made kits in order to recover data from Health Insurance beneficiaries, Netflix accounts or even PayPal on Telegram who was arrested. Buyers of this type of kit could quickly gain the trust of victims as they had all their personal data.

Many online scams, however, are out of date and there is a risk of buyers being scammed themselves.

To protect yourself from this type of scam, “never communicate sensitive information by email or telephone, and before clicking on a dubious link, position your cursor on this link (without clicking) in order to display (and check) the address to which it actually points,” advises the Directorate General for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Repression.
