What we ate on delivery: 7 meals that kept us sane this week

by time news

1. Pizza Shiroko

Ordering Shiroko at home is a strange experience, because you are probably used to eating it on the street, a slice or two, and with a tropical dish. But you will be surprised to find out that she is just as sly at home as she is on the street, minus the view of the homeless. Thin pizza with cheap toppings, classic sauce and stretched cheese. A true Tel Aviv classic, without all the posturing of a classic. Just close your eyes and remember the countless evenings that ended there. Now you want exactly that.

Recommended dish? come on. Shiroko pizza is Shiroko pizza in all its shades. The classic is a Bulgarian and mushroom platter (NIS 80), but also kalamata olives, tomatoes and onions will remind you of your drunkest evening. What does it matter? Everything more or less tastes the same – of old school pizza.
Is there an option for vegans? Come on, it’s Shiroko pizza. They are still stuck in 2009. Sorry, our vegan friends, you’ll have to make do with a different pizza.

2. Baba Yaga

Whenever there’s a bit of wind outside, we immediately remember our Eastern European roots (it really depends on the day) and look for a warm embrace of stews from grandma’s house, born to deal with the Soviet cold. The old “Baba Yaga” restaurant is probably the most traditional restaurant in this sense, with dishes taken straight from the Russian kitchen, and done in a classic home cooking style with restaurant pretense. It is definitely one of the more expensive restaurants that you can order for delivery, but if you overcome the pain in your pocket, the heat in your stomach makes you forget the price.

Recommended dish? The beef strogonoff (NIS 138), despite the price, is a must-try dish, and our restaurant critic signs this dish with two dirty hands.
Is there an option for vegans? If you really try, you can walk through the drops of butter and find enough ingredients to put together a complete vegan meal, among other things with the help of the vegan fettuccine dish (NIS 96), but honestly – it’s better to look for an alternative.

3. Taizo coffee

Taizo’s special Asian cuisine, which draws inspiration from different regions and different cuisines throughout Asia, is an important urban asset, and since Cafe Taizo joined during the Corona period, we couldn’t help but be amazed that the restaurant’s eating experience also manages to pass through cardboard boxes. It, of course, doesn’t feel the same as sitting at Taizo, but when it comes to deliveries, this is one of the most outstanding restaurants in the city, and now that deliveries have moved to a new location in Givon Square, the old menu has also begun to renew and change. Unfortunately, it is still not possible to order delivery The Koji Burgerbut there are plenty of appetizing dishes there.

Recommended dish? Everyone has their own dish at Taizo, but we’d be lying if we said we don’t order the perfect simple dish Chicken Masallah (NIS 69) every time. It’s like drowning in a buttery, reddish dream.
Is there an option for vegans? There are some decent options, such as the delicious and refreshing manang curry dish (72 NIS), but we were intrigued to see a new dish – eggplant and tofu jonjun (68 NIS).

4. Will praise

Now that we’re after the challah schnitzel trend on Fridays, we’re finally ready to admit that we love this dish too. Sorry, we’re a little late, but you have to admit that there is something in the very Israeli alchemy of fresh challah stuffed with Shabbat table foods to create food so local that it drives us crazy. The softness of the cooked soaked challah (spicy, obviously spicy) meets the crunchiness of the schnitzel, which is wrapped in the rich and so satisfying taste of the fried eggplants. And that’s it, really, no transition is needed. This is exactly what is in “Yishtabach” – culinary minimalism at its peak. One bite and you have flashbacks to childhood that even if you haven’t experienced, you know.

Recommended dish? There really aren’t many options except schnitzel in challah (NIS 40), which is actually what we wanted, so what a treat.
Is there an option for vegans? Well, vegans work less at the schnitzel stand, but for vegetarians there is a festive shakshuka dish, which can also be ordered inside challah.

5. Abu Hassan

On Valentine’s Day we went for the classics. Abu Hassan, Ali Karavan, the perfect hummus – whatever you call them, they will come to feed you a dish so perfect that it will make you write love songs to hummus as if you were Nigel the Rebbe. This is a dish you know you will never disappoint, forget or give up It’s up to you. She will always be there to provide love, so you want to spend Valentine’s Day in their company. Just relax with the onion if you have a date in the evening. Or at least order another takeaway. Flowers are nice, but Abu Hassan for a date is the perfect gift.

6. Mescalito

The Mexicans certainly knew what they were doing when they built their dishes. A particularly happy combination of meat and cheese and spicy sauces packed in a tortilla, easy to eat and so satisfying. Several Mexican spots have sprung up in Tel Aviv over the years – although not enough – with one of the oldest among them being Mescale, the Mexican bar-restaurant that has provided space for countless dates. The second that passed, when he opened a delivery branch and a small takeaway on Herzl, we hurried to taste and discovered that the refreshment did them only good.

Recommended dish? Still not clear? Because the tinga chicken casserole (NIS 36) is a shell, but it usually won’t be enough on its own, so also take nachos with salsa (NIS 22).
Is there an option for vegans? Not much. The burrito comes in a vegan version based on Portobello mushrooms (NIS 52), and Casdia has a vegetarian version with Portobello and mozzarella.

7. Corridor

We are no longer in the army, so obviously huge hamburgers don’t excite us anymore. But every now and then the desire to eat too much overcomes us, and in that case it’s clear where to order from – the “Corridor” hamburger restaurant, which has been serving completely excessive hamburgers for seven years. The toppings are loaded on this serious meatball, and although most hamburgers can be confused and missed, if you hit on a successful dish, you will have a happy and satisfying meal waiting for you.

Recommended dish? Well, you have already understood that the Castro El Presidente is highly recommended (64 NIS), but even the corrupt “don’t order” dish, despite its name, is a great option for a burger with bacon and onion jam, cheddar, and a fried onion ring (64 NIS) .
Is there an option for vegans? Even two: Redifine hamburger with pepper spread, guacamole and baby spinach (66 NIS), or Portobello hamburger with the same ingredients (52 NIS).
