On the sixth day of truce between Israel and Hamas, new hostages should be released by the Islamist movement in exchange for the release of Palestinian detainees. A dynamic which could continue, Hamas having said it was ready this Wednesday, November 29 to extend the truce in the Gaza Strip by four days and release new hostages. For now, the ceasefire ends Thursday at 6 a.m. (Paris time). “L’Obs” has been taking stock of the releases for five days.

• 81 hostages released…

The agreement signed on Wednesday, November 22 with the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States, provided for the release of 50 Israeli hostages in exchange for 150 Palestinians held in Israeli jails. The extension of the truce recorded on Monday made it possible to continue the releases on both sides. Since the start of the week, 20 Israelis and 63 Palestinian detainees have been released, at the rate of one hostage for every three prisoners.

•… including 60 Israelis and binationals

In the five groups liberated by Hamas, there are 61 Israelis. They are women of all ages and children of both sexes. On Friday, four children, including one aged two, and six women aged over 70 were on the official list of released hostages. However, no man was released.

Among these Israeli hostages, we also find people with dual nationality. This was particularly the case on Monday evening, with the release of German, Argentinian, but also French nationals. They were Eitan, 12 years old, as well as Erez and Sahar, 12 and 16 years old, three Franco-Israelis kidnapped in southern Israel during the October 7 attack.

•… and 21 foreigners released outside the agreement

Twenty-one other hostages, mostly Thais living in Israel, were also released outside the framework of this agreement. We also find a Filipino released Friday evening, and a 4-year-old American girl named Abigail, announced free by Joe Biden on Sunday evening.

Hamas also announced this Wednesday that it had released two female Russian hostages, releases which also took place outside of the agreement with Israel. The Palestinian Islamist movement had already released Ron Krivoi, a 25-year-old Israeli-Russian, on Sunday in gratitude for “support for the Palestinian cause” of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

• 180 Palestinian prisoners released

In return for the release of the hostages, Israel has released 180 Palestinians since Friday. There are also women and children who have joined the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
