Dharmapuri:

When will Dharmapuri Ramakal Lake become a tourist destination? The people of Dharmapuri Municipality 1st Ward are expecting that.

1st Ward

There are total 33 wards in Dharmapuri Municipality. Ward 1 is located in the northern boundary of the municipality. This ward includes Madikonpalayam, a part of Old Dharmapuri, New Tirupattur Road, Morapur Road, Kottaimedu. Farmers and laborers live in large numbers in these.

There are 745 houses in this ward. There are more than 50 street lights and 3 water tanks. The population of the ward is 2 thousand 772. The total number of voters in this ward is 1,918. There are 937 male voters and 981 female voters.

Ramakal lake

Dharmapuri Regulation Sales Hall, Cold Storage, Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp are located in this ward. Also Ramakal Lake, one of the main landmarks of Dharmapuri city, is located in this ward. Spread over an area of 280 acres, this lake is benefiting 150 acres of agricultural land. Also this lake is the main cause of rise in ground water level in Dharmapuri city. This Ramakal Lake receives water from the rains that fall in the lake area and through the surplus water scheme of the Panchapalli Chinnaru Dam. The famous Muniappan temple is located on the lake shore.

Such a special Ramakal lake should be developed as a tourist destination. The walking track on the lake should be repaired. In the 1st Ward, various demands are being emphasized by the public, including the improvement of basic facilities including drinking water and sewerage.

Their comments in this regard are as follows:-

Sewage treatment plant

Balan from New Tirupathur Road Area:-

The residents of the 1st Ward area should be provided with drinking water and sewerage facilities. Every day more than 100 people come and go for a walk on the banks of Ramakal Lake. For the convenience of pedestrians, a pavement made of cement stones has been constructed. At present the road is damaged and overgrown with weeds. Also, lighting should be installed in the area to facilitate public walking in the evening and surveillance cameras should be installed in the area to ensure their safety. Sewage mixing in the lake causes health problems. This should be prevented. Also, a treatment plant should be set up near the lake to facilitate the treatment of sewage.

Children’s Park

Social activist Damodaran:-

In Dharmapuri city, there are hardly any recreational places including parks for the people to spend their time with family or friends. As a result, more and more people come and go to Ramakal Lake under Ward 1. So a children’s park should be established here. Also the bushes around the banks of the lake should be removed. A toilet complex has already been constructed through the Assembly Member Constituency Development Fund for the use of the public visiting the lake. It is locked without proper use. Due to this, people coming and going to the lake face difficulties. So steps should be taken to bring the health complex back into use. Parking should be provided in this area to facilitate the parking of two-wheelers.

High tower electric light

Head of the family Lata:-

Krishnagiri Road and Tirupattur Road junction near Ramakal Lake is not well lit at night. So a high tower electric light should be set up here. Drinking water is provided once in 3 days in this ward area. This should be regulated and the public should be provided drinking water in required quantity. Roads in this area are heavily trafficked, so a speed limit should be put in place. Garbage is removed from the ward area. Despite this, the trash accumulates quickly. Measures should be taken to prevent accumulation of garbage and blockage of sewers.

They said this.
