“GERB were worried that there was a “fraud” behind a report submitted to the SOS on the expropriation of properties in various parts of Sofia, including South Park”. This was written by the mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, on Facebook.
Earlier in the day, GERB-SDS demanded an inspection of all private properties in South Park. This year, the Metropolitan Municipality wants to buy 18 out of 75 private properties falling on the territory of the South Park from the nearby mall. The proposal is included in the annual program for the acquisition and management of municipal property. According to GERB, the properties are scattered and the municipality will spend a lot of money, and “it won’t even be able to build an alley” on them.
“Don’t worry, colleagues from GERB. Let me refresh your memory. I remind you that in 15 GERB you did not take real actions for expropriation and you allowed the moratorium on construction on territories that the Municipality was interested in acquiring for public use to expire. The report and the municipal property management program has been prepared entirely based on the proposals of the regional mayors. This year, the priority areas for expropriation are parks, as well as those for kindergartens and streets. After public discussion in committees, we are preparing corrections to the initial report based on the proposals of the municipal councilors and we will submit this week. GERB participates in all the committees and are aware of all this. I draw attention to the fact that in order for there to be a purchase, there must also be an expressed desire from the owner to sell. And we, gentlemen from GERB, in no way to allow it to be built or built in the park,” the mayor also said.
And he explains that he has made a commitment to protect the green spaces in Sofia. “We are implementing it. Due to the legacy of the management of GERB, we cannot take all the properties with a budget in one year. This year – 18, next year – more and so we will turn the parks into complete green spaces. The proposed land for expropriation protects the public interest and prevents others actions on the territory of the park that would violate its integrity. Comsolidation is not a good idea, because precisely the “Swiss cheese” does not allow someone else to unite the grounds and investment ideas to appear,” he also wrote. And explains that the submitted report is a framework of intent. Any purchase, sale or other type of disposal of municipal property is considered in the committees and voted on in the SOS.
“Now can GERB explain what they have been doing and why they have lacked the determination to expropriate property and buy up land for public parks for over a decade? Why doesn’t GERB want South Park to remain a park? What have GERB got in mind for South Park and want these territories remain private and not municipal? Whose interests does Georgi Georgiev protect and what does he want to do in South Park? Why does someone want to manage private properties instead of municipal ones?
We want to protect the public interest, why don’t GERB want to? Only one thing I don’t know if they understand GERD. There will come a time when they will have to say something really important, but with so many falsehoods and insinuations, will there be anyone to hear them? Is anyone going to believe it?” Terziev asks.
