Gavaskar also said that he came to know about Don Bradman’s achievement of 29 Test centuries when his teammate Dilip Vengsarkar told him.

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar tells how to bat without pressure in front of the wicket when big scores follow. He also revealed the method he had adopted for this.

Sunil Gavaskar, who has scored 13,000 runs in internationals, said he never looked at the scoreboard while batting and never set targets at the crease. Gavaskar said the aim was to bat from start to finish in Test matches.

“I didn’t look at the scoreboard while batting because every batsman has his own way of scoring targets. Small targets are the first thing coaches tell you, get to 10, 20, 30, that’s the good way,” Gavaskar said.

To get rid of the pressure to reach a specific target, one has to understand each ball and play without looking at the scoreboard, Gavaskar while speaking at the spotlight session at Infocomm 2022 organized by ABP Group.

”The way I look at it, if my goal is to reach 30, somewhere around 24-25, I’ll be very anxious to reach 30. Then I play the ball outside the off side. But get out on 26 and try to hit a boundary to take the score to 30,’ Gavaskar said.

Gawaskar said that he came to know about Don Bradman’s achievement of 29 Test centuries in the 1983 match against West Indies in New Delhi when his teammate Dilip Vengsarkar told him. Gavaskar said that his goal was to score 100 runs every time he went to bat.
