‘Bourbon·Rye’ Wild Türkiye 101 Series
Following single malt and bourbon, attention is paid to ‘rye whiskey’
Heritage product ‘Water 101 8 Years 1 Liter’ scheduled to be released
American whiskey brand Wild Turkey introduces high-quality rye whiskey to the domestic market. Excluding the United States, Korea is the first official sale in the world.
Transbeverage, a liquor import and distribution company, announced on the 23rd that it will officially launch ‘Wild Turkey 101 Rye’ and begin full-scale sales.
Recently, rye whiskey has been receiving a lot of attention following bourbon in the domestic market. It is also considered the next category to lead the liquor trend after single malt whiskey. It is said to be lighter than bourbon but has a unique spicy taste. Unlike bourbon, which uses corn, ‘rye’ is the main ingredient.
Wild Turkey first introduced ‘Wild Turkey Rye’, which has an alcohol content of 40.5%, and this time it launched Wild Turkey 101 Rye, a high-alcohol product, for the first time in Korea. The number 101 means ‘101 proof’. When converted to alcohol content, it means ABV (Alcohol by Volume) 50.5%. The ABV is the same as Wild Türkiye’s flagship bourbon whiskey, ‘Wild Türkiye 101 8 Year Old’. The capacity is 750ml, the same as Wild Türkiye 101 8 Year Old.
In the case of the existing Wild Turkey Rye, it was evaluated as an entry-level whiskey due to its weak flavor and impact compared to the Bourbon Wild Turkey 101 8 Year Old. This Wild Turkey 101 Rye is said to have achieved the intense taste and aroma unique to classic rye whiskey by increasing the alcohol content and complementing it.
Like bourbon, Wild Turkey 101 Rye is subject to strict quality control by father and son master distillers Jimmy and Eddie Russell. Wild Turkey Rye Whiskey is completed by maintaining the secret recipe used in bourbon, such as high rye content, low alcohol distillation, and alligator char barrel method. Wild Turkey said that it starts with a rich scent of vanilla and spice (spicy), progresses through the taste of toffee nuts and pepper, and ends with a smoky feeling.
Wild Turkey completed its 101 lineup with bourbon and rye whiskey. To commemorate this, we plan to release a special 101 8 Year 1 Liter product symbolizing our bourbon heritage. Bourbon and Rye 101 series in 750ml capacity are sold at all E-Mart branches. The new product, Rye 101, can also be pre-ordered through E-Mart Smart Order Wine Grab.
Among bartenders and whiskey drinkers, rye whiskey is attracting attention as the next category to lead the whiskey trend after single malt, and in particular, Wild Turkey 101 Rye is the most loved by bartenders around the world as a base for classic cocktails such as Manhattan and Sazerac. It is evaluated as one of the rye whiskeys receiving the highest awards.
A TransBeverage official said, “Following our 8-year Wild Turkey bourbon masterpiece 101, we have launched 101 Rye, which contains the essence of rye whiskey, for the first time in the Korean market. In the United States, Wild Turkey 101 Rye is used by bartenders for classic cocktails such as Manhattan and Sazerac. “As one of the products that receives a lot of love from consumers, we expect it to have an impact on the interest and popularity of rye whiskey in the domestic market as well,” he said.
