Will all Panchayat Kanmais be merged under Water Resources Department?

Madurai: As the Irrigation Department has been separated from the Public Works Department and has been converted into the Water Resources Department, there has been a demand that all water sources should be merged under this department.
In Tamil Nadu, more than 15 thousand wells are maintained under the control of Water Resources Department and 25 thousand wells are maintained under Panchayat. In order to improve the water supply of Tamil Nadu, the Building Department was changed to Public Works Department and Irrigation Department to Water Resources Department.
Improvements to irrigation can be made continuously through this scheme, but it also works within a certain circle. In terms of irrigation, ‘systems’ are called culverts, and when one culvert fills up, the other culverts continue to fill. These banks will be strengthened from time to time by the Water Resources Department. Kalungs will be properly maintained.
If there is a leak, it will be repaired immediately. Funds are allocated separately for these. They build barrages at unnecessary places and in substandard and unauthorized patterns.

Due to such wrong approach, the channel of water channels is blocked in some places and the irrigation of the farmers is questionable. The Water Resources Department has a list of how much water should be released to which culverts with rainwater. According to the list, when filling the eyelids, the eyelids under the panchayat are in between, so they cannot be filled.

In the rural area, upper pool is under the water resources department and the lower pool is under the control of panchayat, so it is the farmers who are affected. Therefore, the farmers have demanded that Panchayat Kanmai should be brought under the water resources department in order to integrate all the water sources.
