‘Will field own son to face Siddaramaiah’; Yeddyurappa in protective role in the last lap

Bengaluru: There are indications that the son of BJP leader and former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa may contest against former chief minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah in Karnataka. Yeddyurappa himself, who is leading the BJP’s election campaign in Karnataka, informed about this. His announcement was made at an emergency press conference held in Bengaluru immediately after the election was announced on May 10.

Siddaramaiah is contesting from Varuna constituency in Mysuru. Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra is currently the MLA from Varuna. Yeddyurappa said in a press conference that high-level discussions are progressing with regard to contesting his son BY Vijayendra in Varuna against Siddaramaiah.

At the same time, Yeddyurappa also justified the government’s move to remove reservation for Muslim minorities in Karnataka. “No injustice has been done to the Muslim people. They will get reservation in economically backward sections’, Yeddyurappa said. There were massive protests against the government’s move to cancel Muslim reservation just days before the elections.

C voter ABP opinion survey result was that Congress will come to power in Karnataka. Congress has a clear advantage in all areas of the state. BJP will win 68 to 80 seats. But the survey predicts that the Congress will win 115 to 127 seats out of the total 224 seats.

Most people responded that the current leader of the opposition, Siddaramaiah, will be the next chief minister. According to the survey, the incumbent Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is the second runner-up for the post of Chief Minister and the third is JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy. Only 3.2 percent people supported Congress state president DK Shivakumar. BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kattil was favored by only 1.6 percent.
