Ukraine has hinted in the last day that it is ready to make concessions to Russia, in an attempt to prevent an invasion by the giant from the east.

The British ambassador to Ukraine today withdrew from statements made yesterday from Kiev regarding the possibility of waiving the attempt to join NATO, but stressed that his country may be prepared for other concessions that will be on the agenda.

Biden to President of Ukraine: “We will respond to any Russian aggression”

As will be recalled, Russia’s main demand is to veto Ukraine’s accession to the NATO alliance, as well as that of other countries from the former USSR.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz will visit Kiev today in an attempt to reconcile the parties. Germany initially introduced a less aggressive line against Russia, following its reliance on Russian gas to be supplied to it through the Nordstream 2 gas pipeline.

Before flying, Schultz said that in the event of an invasion, Russia would suffer “severe sanctions that we had carefully prepared for us that we could impose immediately.”

Schultz will then fly to Russia on Tuesday, trying to dissuade them from invading.

On Sunday, Ukrainian President Zalansky urged US President Biden to visit Kiev in the coming days to show support. The White House did not officially respond to the invitation.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is holding talks with world leaders with the aim of “bringing Russia back from the edge” as it approaches war.

Amid Western fears of a Russian invasion and war as early as this week, a senior Russian official told Interfax news agency that Russia was ready to open up about any vessels entering their waters illegally, but stressed that approval should be obtained at the highest levels.
