Director General of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Muwaffaq Abdel-Wahab, confirmed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will spare no effort to provide what sports federations request to make their hosting of international championships a success, after the great success achieved by Iraq in organizing the most important events at the continental and international levels.
Abdul Wahab told the (INA), today, Thursday: “The Ministry of Youth and Sports began work early in order to optimally prepare for the upcoming tournaments that will be held in Iraq, most notably the West Asian table tennis qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will be held in Sulaymaniyah Governorate for the period from 16 To the 19th of this May, as well as hosting the World Billiards and Snooker Championship, which will be held during the month of next September, in addition to holding the West Asian Athletics Championship at the Basra International Stadium track during the month of May, in addition to many other competitions that will come successively during the coming period.”
Abdul-Wahab explained: “After the great success achieved by Iraq in hosting the Gulf Championship in its twenty-fifth edition in Basra Governorate, the doors became open and eyes were turning towards Iraq in hosting the Arab, regional and international championships, and this was reflected in Iraq with a positive impact through the great openness after the support and support.” The two major tournaments were awarded by the government for various sports, as Iraq witnessed hosting many tournaments, including bow and arrow, table tennis, judo, and fencing.”
Abdel Wahab added: “Specialized committees have been formed by the Ministry as the highest government body concerned with the youth and sports sector and is responsible for logistical matters regarding infrastructure and other things, in cooperation and coordination with the relevant federations through continuous meetings and discussion of ways to make the tournaments a success.”
Abdul Wahab continued, “The Ministry is continuing to make diligent efforts to prepare all logistical matters in cooperation and coordination with the relevant federations and relevant authorities, namely the Ministries of Interior, Defense, Health, Transport and other service institutions, under the direct supervision of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Al-Mubarqa, in an effort to show the true picture of Iraq and its return to… “The forefront once again as one of the most important poles of the sports movement in the region and the world.”
