Western Michigan University Elevates Eleven Athletic Department Staff Members

Western Michigan University (WMU) has demonstrated a strong commitment to its athletic staff and strategic goals with the recent promotion of eleven individuals within the athletic department. The moves, announced by Vice President and Director of Athletics And Bartholomae, reflect a dedication to professional development and bolstering the student-athlete experience during a period of industry-wide change.
“I am thrilled to announce the promotions of Zannie Black, Greg Cronkite, Matt Kulik, Hans Zoeller, Adriana DiazHunter Stratfold, Max Elder, Miranda Boucard, Bethany Dolezal, Alexis French and Kelsie Nimke,” Bartholomae stated. “These individuals are leaders within our department and provide expertise in their respective units, making these promotions well-deserved. In addition, during a time of significant change throughout our industry, we remain committed to resourcing those departments that directly impact the student-athlete experience.”
Strengthening Leadership Across Key Departments
The promotions span a variety of critical areas within WMU Athletics, signaling a broad investment in departmental expertise. Zannie Black has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director of Compliance, a role where he will oversee all adherence to NCAA, conference, and University regulations. Black’s leadership will be instrumental in upholding the integrity of Bronco Athletics through comprehensive education and monitoring programs for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
On the fan engagement front, Greg Cronkite will now serve as Associate Athletic Director of Fan Engagement and Digital Strategies. Cronkite will spearhead efforts to enhance the overall fan experience, leveraging digital storytelling and expanding WMU’s reach across social and digital platforms. He will also provide direct oversight of all marketing initiatives and Bronco Productions, fostering collaboration to create a cohesive and engaging atmosphere.
Facility improvements and operational efficiency will be guided by Matt Kulik, who has been elevated to Associate Athletic Director of Facilities and Operations. Kulik will manage both the daily operations and long-term planning of WMU’s athletic facilities, overseeing event operations, scheduling, and assisting with capital projects.
Ensuring Bronco Athletics operates with cutting-edge technology is the responsibility of Hans Zoeller, now Associate Athletic Director of Information Technology. Zoeller will continue to lead the department’s IT strategy, security, and infrastructure, driving innovation and improving efficiency across all operations.
Prioritizing Student-Athlete Success
WMU’s commitment to its student-athletes is further emphasized through the promotion of Adriana Diaz to Assistant Athletic Director, Academic Advisor. Diaz will continue to guide student-athletes in their academic pursuits, providing essential support and resources to ensure their success both in the classroom and beyond. Her leadership is crucial in maintaining the Broncos’ academic excellence.
Creative content and live event production will benefit from the expertise of Hunter Stratfold, who has been promoted to Director of Bronco Productions. Stratfold’s team will play a vital role in showcasing student-athletes, enhancing the gameday atmosphere, and building the WMU brand through innovative multimedia projects.
Supporting the health and well-being of student-athletes, Max Elder has been elevated to Assistant Director of Medical Services. Elder will contribute to the sports medicine program through leadership in student-athlete care, assisting with administration and collaborating with athletic training staff.
Expanding Sports Medicine Expertise
The sports medicine unit has also seen significant growth with several key promotions. Miranda Boucard will now serve as an Associate Athletic Trainer, continuing to support the football and cheer programs with a comprehensive approach to athlete health, injury management, and performance optimization.
Bethany Dolezal has been promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer, focusing on the medical and performance needs of the Hockey and Dance programs. Dolezal’s expertise in injury prevention, treatment, and return-to-play management will be invaluable to these teams.
Alexis French has been elevated to Associate Athletic Trainer, providing dedicated medical coverage for the Baseball and Golf programs. French will oversee injury prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation, ensuring student-athletes receive the highest level of care.
Finally, Kelsie Nimke has been promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer, overseeing the medical care and performance support for the Gymnastics and Cross Country programs.
