, which is made especially for babies. The pleasant smell causes a pleasant feeling and also treats rashes – but now, it seems that the celebration is about to stop.

Johnson & Johnson will pay $8.9 billion by 2048 to settle thousands of lawsuits filed against it in the field of its talcum powder. According to the plaintiffs, the powder, together with other talc products it produces, cause cancer. According to the company, the allegations are still unproven – Johnson & Johnson has filed for creditor protection for the subsidiary – the one that manufactures the product.

As you may recall, the product for babies was taken off the shelves more than two years ago, both in the United States and in Canada, after a substance similar to asbestos was detected in it. Following the situation, last August the company announced that the product would not be sold at all in the world. Many customers in the world filed lawsuits following the use of the powder. It turns out that women also used it and then, with or without contact, got ovarian cancer. How does the company explain the fact that the product was removed from the shelves at the same time as the claims that it does not harm customers? There they claim a sharp drop in sales due to incorrect information regarding the safety of using the product.

The company has already paid billions to people who sued it in the US and even more than 2.5 billion dollars to women who fell ill. In 2018, it was ruled against it to pay almost 5 billion dollars for 22 women who also got cancer after using the powder, which as mentioned is intended not only for babies, but also for use in problems related to hygiene and smell. It is estimated that the use of acetab, which was previously banned for use in many classrooms in Israel, causes cancer.

The subsidiary that produces the talc is LTL Management and Johnson has announced that it has filed for creditor protection. A year and a half ago, the company decided to transfer all claims to the subsidiary and filed for bankruptcy. About three months ago, after the court had already approved it, an appeals court rejected this possibility. He stated that the companies are not in a situation where protection from creditors is necessary.

On the other hand, the company still claims that there is no scientific proof for the findings. But at the same time, it will have to shoulder billions to compensate them, especially those who fell ill as a result of increased use of its talc.
