Penn State Behrend’s women’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance Saturday, defeating Mt. Aloysius 76-59 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) matchup at the Junker Center. The victory elevates Behrend’s record to 10-5 overall and 5-1 within the conference, while Mt. Aloysius falls to 5-8, with a 3-1 AMCC record.
Lions Control the Game From the Tip-Off
The Penn State Behrend Lions established their dominance early, building a 21-12 lead after the first quarter. Despite a spirited second-quarter comeback by Mt. Aloysius, which included a 10-2 run to narrow the gap to a single point, Behrend responded decisively. A key layup from Mt. Aloysius’ Molly Kosmack brought the score to 23-22 with 7:38 remaining before halftime, but the Lions quickly regained control.
Balaski Leads a Balanced Attack
Julia Balaski spearheaded the Lions’ offensive effort, contributing a game-high 19 points and nine rebounds. She also showcased exceptional court vision, dishing out a career-best eight assists and matching her personal record with five steals. “Balaski’s all-around performance was crucial to our success,” a team spokesperson noted.
Beyond Balaski, Behrend benefited from a balanced scoring attack. Madilyn Boyer added 17 points to the tally, while Marsteller achieved a career-high 15 points, including a career-best three three-pointers. Alaina Fabin rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, alongside seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
Second-Half Surge Seals the Victory
Behrend’s 21-6 run late in the second quarter propelled them to a 44-28 halftime lead, a margin they would not relinquish. The Lions maintained control throughout the second half, never trailing and consistently extending their advantage. The team’s cohesive play and defensive pressure stifled Mt. Aloysius’ attempts to regain momentum.
Looking Ahead
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday with a road game against Hilbert, scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time.
