Falcons Soar After Season-Opening Victory
Air Force Women’s Gymnastics launched its 2026 season wiht a decisive 194.750-190.025 victory over Winona State on Friday evening. the performance was highlighted by an all-time showing on the uneven bars in Cadet West Gym. The team demonstrated strength across all events, setting a positive tone as they approach Mountain West action.
Event Breakdown: A Strong Start
The Falcons began their evening on vault, achieving a score of 48.675.Leading the charge were senior Kylee Greene,sophomore Alyssa Bigler,and reigning Mountain West Gymnast of the Year,junior Maggie Slife,each earning a score of 9.775. Senior team captain Gabriella Hartley contributed a 9.700, finishing fifth on the evening.
The team then delivered an exceptional performance on uneven bars, scoring a 49.025 – tying the program’s fifth-best all-time finish and marking the 10th time in program history they’ve scored a 49 or better in the event. Greene showcased a career-high 9.850 in her first judged bars routine since 2023, while Bigler followed with a 9.825, her second-highest career mark. Slife anchored the Falcons with a program-first 9.900 on the year. Hartley continued her strong performance, matching her career high with a 9.775.
Slife continued to dominate, earning a 9.875 on balance beam, leading the Falcons through the third event. Bigler matched her career best with a 9.825, completing a one-two finish with Slife. The team concluded on beam with a total score of 48.250.
On floor exercise, slife and Bigler anchored a 48.800 finish. Slife secured her third top score of the night with a 9.875 floor routine,while Bigler achieved her second 9.8 or better of the evening, finishing with a 9.825.
slife Earns Mountain West Recognition
Maggie Slife’s outstanding performance in the opening week of competition has earned her recognition as the Mountain West Specialist of the Week. Slife claimed the top spot in three events and a share of the fourth in the win over Winona State on January 9th. She was recognized for her scores in uneven bars (9.900), balance beam (9.875), and floor exercise (9.875).
“Slife continues to own the scene across the league,” a team spokesperson stated. Her all-around score of 39.425 secured the league’s first Gymnast of the Week award in 2026, and currently ranks her eighth nationally in the all-around – making her the highest-ranked non-Power Four all-arounder in the country.
