National Traffic Council determines that transported materials are protected by tarpaulins or bars

Truck caught transporting wood on BR-158, with part of the load hanging, generated concern and the images were sent to the Campo Grande News this Wednesday (20). The road where the scenes were recorded is intensely busy and passes through five municipalities in Mato Grosso do Sul: Cassilândia, Paranaíba, Aparecida do Taboado, Selvíria, Três Lagoas and Brasilândia.
Contran (National Traffic Council) imposes, through resolution no. 946 of 03/28/2022, that the transfer of materials, solid or in bulk, be carried out with a fully closed body or with closed side guards.
The law also states that bodies can have side guards equipped with metal screens, but the mesh must have dimensions that prevent fragments of the transported material from spilling.
Finally, the resolution adds that the load must be completely covered by tarpaulins or similar devices. Failure to respect transport laws can lead to accidents on the roads if the material becomes loose or falls from the body.
According to traffic specialist, Carlos Alberto Pereira, if the vehicle throws fragments, parts of the load and/or other types of material onto the road, it will be subject to the measures in art. 231 of the CTB (Brazilian Traffic Code), with a very serious penalty and fine if any object creates a risk of accident. In addition to vehicle retention.
“This analysis must be carried out by the traffic inspection agent on the road, who will decide on possible measures”, he said.
Drivers who see long vehicles with dangerous or irregular loads can report them to the Federal Highway Police. The report contacted the PRF to question the inspection on the stretch, but so far has not received any answers. The space remains open.
