World Laughter Day, May 2: the benefits according to the expert

by time news

Milan, April 29, 2021 – To smile, our body uses twelve muscles without us noticing or feeling the slightest effort. Laughing is good, you know, and it must be done, even and above all today. This is supported by science, but also by the wide and growing offer of successful entertainment programs, television and not, and the boom of memes and themed gifs on social networks.

Further confirmation also comes from the data of the latest survey conducted by Wiko – a Franco-Chinese telephony brand – within its Instagram Community on the occasion of World Laughter Day (2 May).

Laughing relieves stress. This is true for 96% of survey respondents and is not a question of age (97%). Being happy is a choice. Laughter has the power to play down “critical” situations (90%) and for this very reason – according to the expert interviewed by Wiko Desirè Furnari, founder of Rinascerefelici.com and well-being trainer specialized in laughter therapy and very active lifecoach with tips and lessons also on his Instagram and Youtube channels – laughter can save us.

“We are all good at laughing and being joyful when things go well, but life is also made up of challenges to overcome, and it is precisely in these moments that laughter can become a resource. Scientific research and the psycho-neuro-endocrine -immunology teach us that the benefits of laughter are manifold: from strengthening the immune system, to increasing the production of serotonin, endorphin, dopamine and oxytocin, as well as stimulating creative and problem-solving skills. Laughter completely oxygenates the whole our body, especially our brain, making us more lucid and productive. So, absurdly, it is precisely in the moments when we do not find a reason to laugh that we need it most “, comments Desirè.

“But how can we laugh in difficult moments? According to the expert in laughter therapy,” there are two factors that generate laughter in us: the first part of the rational mind, humor. The second, on the other hand, is linked to our body, to its moving freely, in a happy way, just like children do. Happiness is not a matter of luck, it depends mainly on ourselves and does not expect, it is already within us. You just have to pay attention to it. It is like a candle: if turns on outside, a gust of wind is enough to turn it off, but if it turns on “inside your home” it will not turn off so easily. If your happiness depends on external factors such as people, objects, situations, fortunes, the amount of likes that reaches your post etc., anyone will have the power to turn it off. Nothing and nobody has the power to make you sad if you have decided to be happy “.

Among the things that make users laugh the most, according to 61% of respondents to the Wiko survey, are chats with friends that beat VIP memes (39%). The gifs of animals are also successful (52%) which exceed, but only by measure, the videos in the various local dialects (48%). They immediately become viral and tell the news in a comic or satirical key. As a further demonstration of the desire to have fun and laugh, 77% of respondents say they follow funny accounts and profiles, although 79% say they share witty content privately instead of posting it on the feeds for a friendly laugh.

Laughing has more pros than cons, that’s true. But it is important to remember that you cannot joke about everything! There are still many off-topic topics according to 70% of users interviewed by Wiko. If even for a good 30% this is not the case, it is always better to pay attention not to fall into vulgarity and stereotypes that a “simple” post or video could unnecessarily amplify.
