On March 6, 2024, the Ministers of Health of African countries primarily concerned by malaria committed, within the framework of a declaration, to intensify the means to achieve the eradication of the parasitic disease which, according to the WHO, had caused more than 580,000 deaths in 2022 and infected 249 million people.

Malaria places a disproportionate burden on the African continent, with nearly 94% of cases and 95% of deaths and 70% of the global malaria burden falling on 11 African countries: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and Tanzania. In terms of financing the fight against this mosquito-borne infection, half of the necessary sums are missing.

On the other hand, Cape Verde this year became the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to be declared malaria-free in 50 years.

Where are the malaria vaccination campaigns? What practices and actions should be maintained in terms of prevention and vector control? Faced with malaria, who are the most vulnerable people?

► At the end of the showthe Pr Bertin Kouame will tell us about the 1st international congress on the surgery of congenital pathologies which is being held on April 25 and 26, 2024 in Grand-Bassam in Ivory Coast.
