World number 1 Daniil Medvedev was eliminated as soon as he entered the Masters 1000 in Montreal on Wednesday, beaten 6-7 (2/7), 6-4, 6-2 by Nick Kyrgios (37th), euphoric in stride of his victory at the Washington tournament. The Russian, also winner last week, in Los Cabos in Mexico, and who will defend his title at the US Open in more than two weeks, was overwhelmed by the solidity and power of the Australian, winner of his 8th straight, the last loss of which was to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final last month.
