“Xbox” offers the game “Fortnite” for free on “iPhone” devices

San Francisco: Microsoft’s Xbox brand announced Thursday that it will take advantage of cloud computing services to make Fortnite available for free on mobile devices running iOS or Android.

The Epic Games’ popular fighting game will be the first free game available on the Xbox cloud game service in the 26 countries where the cloud computing service is available, said product development officer Catherine Glockstein in a blog.

The return of “Fortnite” to “iPhone” and “iPad” devices comes after the game was removed from the Apple App Store, in an attempt by “Epic Games” to bypass Apple’s payment system and violate its laws.

Apple sued Epic Games, which accused the iPhone maker of exercising a monopoly over the purchase of goods and services from its app store.

In November, a US federal judge ordered Apple to relax restrictions on its app store payment options, but noted that Epic Games had failed to prove that Apple had violated antitrust.

Fortnite will be available for free via the Xbox cloud gaming service as a result of the partnership with Epic Games.
