More than 5,000 medical treatments have been provided to the Yanomami people since the Public Health Emergency of National Importance (Espin) was declared in the indigenous land located in western Roraima and northern Amazonas. The information was disclosed today (20) by the Ministry of Health.

Medical care for this population is being provided at base centers located in the Yanomami Indigenous Land (TIY) and at health units located in Boa Vista: the General Hospital, the Children’s Hospital and a field hospital set up to respond to emergencies. humanitarian.

The Casa de Saúde Indígena (Casai) Yanomami, a reception center to receive indigenous people during medical treatment in Boa Vista, is also receiving sick people.

Among the health problems faced by the Yanomami are cases of malaria, acute diarrhea, pneumonia, tuberculosis and malnutrition. Many of them involve children.

According to the Ministry of Health, among the 19 children who are being followed up at Casai with severe malnutrition, 15 of them evolved to a moderate condition.

The Ministry of Health reported having sent, since the beginning of the emergency situation, 103 professionals from the National Force of the Unified Health System (SUS) to assist the Yanomami. 5,500 food baskets were also delivered on an emergency basis.

The forecast is to deliver 12,600 baskets per month, which should be distributed to 21,000 people in 282 communities prioritized for being in a situation of food insecurity.

14,300 diagnostic tests for malaria and more than 240,000 drugs to treat the disease were sent to TIY. About 20,000 doses of bivalent vaccine against Covid-19 are destined for the Yanomami population, whose immunization should start next Saturday (25).
