Actor Yash’s son, Yatharv, questioned why his father would play the villain Ravana in the upcoming film Ramayana, according to multiple Telugu-language news outlets.
Son Questions Yash’s Role as Ravana
The conversation unfolded as Yash discussed Ramayana with his son, reports from Webdunia Telugu, Namasthe Telangana and NTV Telugu. Yash will play Ravana alongside Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita.
Yash explained to Yatharv that the complete story is essential for understanding it, as Webdunia Telugu reported. My son knows who his father is. But now, after learning about the story of Ramayana, he was surprised. I explained to him that to fully understand the story, we need to show the whole story on screen.

Distinguishing Actor from Character
The exchange revealed a challenge: explaining to a child that an actor is not the character they play. Yash told Namasthe Telangana he explained to his son, “I sat my son down and told him one thing. The main person we should look up to in this story is Lord Rama. Everyone should walk the path of Rama. Ravana may appear great, powerful, and majestic. But to achieve true, lasting success in life, we must practice Rama’s dharma. ‘You can see me as an actor in the theater and applaud,’ I told him, ‘but you shouldn’t idealize the character I’m playing.’
Yatharv also asked if Ravana dies at the end of the film, prompting a difficult conversation about the story’s outcome, NTV Telugu reported.
Emotional Response at the Premiere
At the Los Angeles premiere of Ramayana, Yatharv became emotional while watching the film. Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita, told Asianetnews Telugu that Yatharv was upset by a scene where Ravana kills a bird. I saw him [Yatharv] crying and he said, ‘I didn’t like you killing the bird.’

Yash noted, according to Prime9News Telugu, that his children had many questions after seeing the film. He emphasized the importance of children understanding life and learning respect.
Family’s First Theatre Visit
The Los Angeles premiere was a first for Yash’s children, Yatharv and Arya, who had never experienced a film in a theatre, Suryaa News reported. Yash and his wife, Radhika Pandit, attended with them. The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is scheduled for release on November 5, 2026.
Yash is both starring as Ravana and co-producing Ramayana through his company, Monster Mind Creations.
