If you watched Maria Zakharova’s last briefing, which some Armenian media diligently broadcast live for two hours, you hardly understood what kind of “combination” Moscow and Baku are playing against Yerevan. Boris Navasardyan, president of Yerevan National Press Club, wrote about this on his Facebook page.
In particular, he noted: “Azerbaijan is forcing Nikol Pashinyan to announce the surrender of four Tavush villages through threats.
And the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, answering the obviously conditioned question of the “Baku” TV channel, warns that the Russian Federation has nothing to do with that “deal” and that Pashinyan was prompted to take such a step by going to the West…
The fact that Azerbaijan’s invasion of Armenia in several directions before the eyes of Russia and the CSTO was followed by the circulation of the concept of a “conditional Armenian-Azerbaijani border” invented by our “strategic ally” in Baku (it is Zakharova who is most actively involved in it), which in fact legitimizes it. any Azerbaijani aggression is nothing.
The fact that Baku and Moscow planned to include the handover of Tavush villages in the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020 is nothing more.
The essential thing, according to the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, is the coincidence of time between the handing over of a part of the same villages and the rapprochement of RA with the EU… The hope is that our society does not notice much, does not remember, taking advantage of which one can try any to put the blame for the loss on Macron, Scholz, Michel, Blinken and Stoltenberg, discrediting the prospect of Europeanization of Armenia.
As you can see, the Azerbaijani and some Armenian media are helping to deliver the relevant message. It will be misunderstood if what I wrote is perceived as a call to hide information. But the allocation of a huge amount of airtime, Zakharova’s desire not to miss a single word and to deliver it to the frightened and whispered audience without delay cannot but raise questions.
Yerevan is in trouble. If you do not comply with Baku’s demands, you increase the risk of a new escalation, if you comply, you call into question the effectiveness of cooperation with the West, including in the field of security.
On the contrary, Moscow appears in a “win-win” situation: the escalation increases the possibility of gaining the status of a “player” once again, and Armenia’s unilateral concession weakens the country’s resistance to similar new “combinations”. Unfortunately, this is the result not only of conspiracies against us, but also of our own inconsistent, adventurous policy. Whether we were able to learn from it will show the further developments… I’m sorry, I couldn’t find a more original ending to the post.”
