Following calls launched on social networks, young people gathered on Friday afternoon in various places in Brussels, according to the police.
The Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone is on alert, after the first gatherings of young people on Thursday evening, which turned into confrontation with the police.
“We operate with a unity of command,” declared Friday evening, the spokesperson for the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone, Ilse Van de Keere, to the Belga agency.
“Coordination is ensured by the head of the unit. All the partners concerned are present at the regional crisis center,” she clarified.
At the start of Friday evening, around fifty people had already been administratively arrested. “These are preventive arrests of people in possession of material, which we can assume was intended to commit damage,” said Ilse Van de Keere.
Thursday evening, calls to gather were also launched on social networks, with the aim of protesting against the death in Nanterre, in the Paris suburbs, of Nahel, a 17-year-old teenager. He was killed at point blank range by a police officer.
The police arrested a total of 64 people during the evening of Thursday.
