United States.- Claudia, a 23-year-old Brazilian girl, She was paralyzed after eating instant soup containing botulism.

The young Claudia from Albuquerque Celada, He was a participant in a work exchange program in Aspe, Colorado; However, he never expected that something as simple as a packaged soup would put his life at risk.

Claudia went to a convenience store and bought an instant soupbut after 15 days of consuming it, he began to experience serious symptoms such as dizziness, double vision and breathing difficulties that caused total paralysis in less than 24 hours.

The young woman had to be hospitalized, as she requires respiratory assistance and according to Pitkin County health authorities, they have determined that the soup was contaminated with botulism, a toxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum found in soil and marine sediments.

The bacteria is potentially dangerous because it can produce spores that resist oxygen-deficient environments such as poorly preserved foods.

The authorities carried out tests on soup samples from the same store that gave negative results for botulism, however, it is believed that improper handling of the soup was the probable trigger.
