It is achieved thanks to presence of many associations and cooperatives, operators, many volunteerswith the aim of supporting the personal development of young people, promoting social cohesion, inclusion, employment and education.

“Thanks to the resolution of the Provincial Council no. 934/2023, the Province of Bolzano has established and introduced the qualification of Youth worker into the Provincial Repertoire”, stated the vice-president of the Province and councilor for education, Marco Galateo.

“The role of those who work with young people is described in detail, defining their activities and skills. This allows us to train a figure with the appropriate skills to work with young people. A pilot project at national level. And, in light of the repeated events of news, give effective, timely and concrete answers bring young people ever closer to youth centres. Con figure formate. Operators such as the promoters of youth policies, who know the area and accompany the kids in a logic of culture and respect. Next week we will be in Rome, with Superintendent Gullotta and a class of the ‘Battisti’, by the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara, to present the ‘BattBull’ app, an innovation that speaks the language of young people against bullying”.

The training path

The training course, lasting 300 hours, aims to provide the tools and knowledge to those who want to work in the promotion of youth policies. At the same time, those who have already worked in this area are given the opportunity to recognize their previous skills and to be able to take the qualification exam in June 2025.

“The professional qualification and the training course allow those who dream of a profession in this sector and those who have worked with young people for a long time to obtain a certification valid on national and European territory”, clarified the director of Education and Training Vincenzo Gullotta who, in collaboration with the director of professional training in Italian Giuseppe Delpero, it started the project path that led to the creation of the professional qualification over a year ago.

Having made an initial mapping of the activities carried out by those who work with young people on a daily basis, the skills were then defined. The round table established with stakeholders from private social organizations (including La Strada-der Weg and the G. Gambara Foundation) and public institutions (numerous schools and the Youth Policy Office of the Italian Culture Division) was facilitated by Teresa Pedretti, director of Irecoop Alto Adige Südtirol. The 10-month profiling work, which allowed the identification and definition of the professional qualification, was carried out by the Directorate of Professional Training in Italian with the support of the interdepartmental group for the validation and certification of skills.

“Italian professional training is always attentive to requests from the world of work by listening to the categories that represent it institutionally. With the Youth worker we offer a path that will give new possibilities for job placement in the promotion of youth policies. A professional qualification that can be used immediately on the job market”, underlined the director of professional training in the Italian language, Giuseppe Delpero.

It will therefore be possible to obtain the qualification, formally recognized through the specific certification valid on national and European territory, as a Youth worker/promoter of youth policies through two different paths: those who already have the experience, after an interview and documentation of the work carried out, will be able to directly access the final exam for the certification of skills. Those who, however, have no work experience, will be able to enroll in the Youth worker course which will start from October 2024 in the Provincial School for Social Professions “E. Lévinas” of Bolzano.

Wellbeing promoters

“The Lévinas School for Social Professions has seized the opportunity to activate a new path with the aim of acquiring a professional qualification recognized and usable at a national level, proposing an innovative training offer appropriate to the needs of the territory. Young people who work with young people, promoters of well-being, of ease; to counteract socio-cultural discomfort”, said the director of the Institute, Alberto Conci.

Information for enrolling in the course is available on the Lévinas Vocational School website.

“Courage and competence are the key factors to best intercept the potential of young people”, concluded Andrea Grata, president of Irecoop Alto Adige Südtirol. “It’s a delicate moment. Languages change. Paradigms have changed and interventions on youth deviance require figures such as the Youth Worker. Operators who, through a presence in the area, intervene with the language of young people to intercept all that is good”.
