Looking Ahead

Erlangen coach Johannes Sellin congratulated THW Kiel on their win, acknowledging his team’s effort. “I am satisfied with our performance; we left an astonishing amount of fight and passion on the record over the entire season,” Sellin stated. “We gave everything, but sadly we award in the phase in which we have come back to you again, twice too lightly.” He added that while it wasn’t a perfect game,it was a very good one,and the team aims to improve for their next outing.

Lukas Laube also reflected on the team’s performance, pointing out areas for growth.”we play well for the first ten minutes, then have a less good phase in which Bala holds a lot,” he observed. “We can play smarter and take out the pace a little. We have to be even better in the defence in the future, and at the front we have to become more consistent.” He added,”It is simply a grate job to play for THW Kiel. Every game is not just about points, but somehow also about titles. It’s just fun playing handball with these Kiel boys and being prosperous.”

HCE captain Sebastian Firnhaber shared his mixed feelings. “At 12: 9 we are very good, then Kiel gets a run and manages to use it better,” Firnhaber recalled. “Then we come back, but cannot knock on the buck. This is the THW Kiel, they then bring it over time.” He also noted the disappointment after working well in preparation, but looks forward to the happiness of playing handball again, especially after a 20-month effort to return stronger.

THW’s Lukas Zerbe acknowledged the nerves of the first league game. “That was the first league game, everyone doesn’t know where to stand,” zerbe said. “Then you are also a bit more nervous because you play in front of full halls again.” He expressed his personal joy in the win, emphasizing that taking points from Erlangen is not a given. “We defended well for over 60 minutes, but might have had a little more speed,” he concluded.

The team is now focused on their upcoming home game against Wetzlar on Wednesday, aiming to build on this opening victory and harness the strong atmosphere of playing in Kiel.
