President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a video link meeting with a group of more than 20 US Senators and Congressmen from the Democratic and Republican Parties. They discussed Washington’s participation in resolving the conflict in Donbass, the situation with Russian troops on the border, Nord Stream 2 and sanctions against Moscow.
Mr. Zelensky said that Kiev is not observing the withdrawal of Russian troops from the border with Ukraine. “The importance of involving the United States in the peace process was noted,” a statement posted on the Ukrainian president’s website said. The meeting highlighted the “important role of the Congress” in expanding support for the Ukrainian defense sector.
The parties also discussed Ukraine’s entry into NATO. “No agreements on Ukraine without Ukraine. No third country can have a say on the issue of Ukraine’s integration into NATO, ”said Mr Zelensky. At the meeting, “the risks were noted” of Nord Stream 2. The President considers it an “energy weapon” against Ukraine and the European continent.
Russia last week proposed draft agreements with the United States and NATO on security guarantees.
