Marseille, France’s second largest city but also one of the poorest, has been mired in violence linked to drug trafficking and smuggling. In addition, victims and perpetrators are getting younger, and gangs actively recruit young people on social networks.

The 15-year-old teenager was killed with unprecedented cruelty, the prosecutor’s office said.

On the other hand, 36-year-old football player Nesims Ramdane was shot dead in Marseille on Friday. He was killed by a 14-year-old teenager. This case is related to the brutal murder of a 15-year-old boy.

This year, 17 people have already been killed in drug-related violence in Marseille.

The most brutal of the murders was committed by a teenager who was recruited on social media by a 23-year-old prisoner to intimidate a rival by setting fire to the door of his house. The prisoner belongs to the “DZ Mafia” group. The young man was promised 2,000 euros for this work.

The hired teenager was spotted during a mission by members of a rival gang who searched him and found a gun on him. As punishment, they stabbed the teenager dozens of times and set him on fire while he was still alive.

The said inmate then turned to social media again, where he hired a 14-year-old teenager for a revenge mission. The task was to kill a rival gang member for €50,000.

The 14-year-old teenager, in turn, hired Ramdani, who worked as a private driver in parallel with his football career. The 14-year-old teenager together with his friend asked the driver to take them to a certain place and wait there, but they probably had a misunderstanding and the teenager shot the driver in the head from the back.

The teenager was handed over to the police by the inmate who had hired him.

The teenager admitted to the police that he shot Ramdani, but claimed that he fired accidentally.
