The Quiet Contender: Is Scott Dixon Being Overlooked in the 2025 INDYCAR Season?
The 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season is brimming with storylines. Alex Palou’s quest for a historic three-peat, Josef Newgarden’s bid for a record-breaking third consecutive Indianapolis 500 victory, and the arrival of FOX Sports as the new TV provider are all generating significant buzz. But amidst this clamor, a familiar name seems to be fading into the background: Scott Dixon.”I’m fine with flying under the radar,” Dixon, the six-time INDYCAR champion, said. “That’s what I love the moast. Keep those guys working flat out. That sounds good to me.”
While Dixon’s teammates, Palou and Kyffin Simpson, are generating headlines, the 44-year-old veteran is quietly preparing for another championship run.
Last season, Dixon experienced his worst points finish as 2016, settling for sixth place. Though, he didn’t let this setback dampen his spirits. He extended his remarkable streak of 20 consecutive years with a win, securing victories at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. This historic achievement underscores Dixon’s enduring talent and consistency.
“It sucks to get beat, and I hate it,” Dixon admitted. “I think that’s what drives you. As I’ve always said, it’s weird how you don’t really think too much about the championships that you won. It’s kind of the ones lost and even going to a diffrent level, about the races that you lost over certain things or just not getting it right.”
dixon attributes his dip in points to a lack of execution from the no. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing team.He believes that the team’s focus on rectifying these mistakes will ultimately make them stronger.
“we definitely have some big areas and some low-hanging fruit where I think we can make some big shifts and some big changes for a positive effect,” he said.
The team’s decision to scale back from five full-time cars to three due to the new charter system is expected to benefit Dixon and his teammates. This reduction in workload will allow for greater attention to detail and a return to the fundamentals.
“I think they were a little stressed on people and size of the team and things like that,” Dixon explained. “It’s just sometimes some areas lack a bit or cataloging things don’t work as well. You don’t have the same amount of parts maybe that are in rotation and things like that. I know for the crews it was kind of challenging, especially with how the season is structured. Those summer months are pretty brutal.”
With a renewed focus and a streamlined operation, Dixon is poised to make another run at the championship. He is just nine wins and one title away from tying A.J. Foyt’s all-time records,a feat that would cement his legacy as one of the greatest drivers in INDYCAR history.
“The fire burns strong,” Dixon declared. “I’m looking forward to getting after it for another year.”
While the spotlight may be shining brighter on other drivers,Scott Dixon remains a force to be reckoned with. His quiet determination, unwavering focus, and proven track record make him a serious contender for the 2025 INDYCAR championship.Don’t be surprised if “Ice Man” melts the competition and reclaims his place at the top of the podium.
Could Scott Dixon Be INDYCAR’s Quiet Contender for 2025?
Time.news Editor: Scott, thanks for taking the time to chat with us. There’s a lot of buzz surrounding the 2025 INDYCAR season, but you seem unfazed by the noise.
Scott Dixon: (Chuckles) I’m fine with flying under the radar. That’s what I love the most. Keeps those guys working flat out. That sounds good to me.
Time.news Editor: You, obviously, have achieved immense success in INDYCAR. Six championships, 20 consecutive years with a win – those are remarkable feats. How do you approach a season with that kind of legacy behind you?
Scott Dixon: It definitely means something. But it doesn’t change how I approach a race weekend or a championship run. Each season is a new challenge, a new team dynamic, and a new set of circumstances. I just try to focus on doing the work, improving every day, and being consistent.
Time.news Editor: Your points finish last season was your worst since 2016. How would you analyze that, and what lessons did you and the team take away from it?
Scott Dixon: It sucked to get beat, and I hate it.But it wasn’t a lack of effort on my part or from the team. I think we had some execution issues throughout the season. We didn’t always capitalize on opportunities and sometimes made mistakes. we’ve analyzed everything, and I believe the team is taking the necessary steps to avoid repeating those errors.
Time.news Editor: I understand chip Ganassi Racing is adjusting its structure this season — shifting from five full-time cars to three. How will that impact your performance?
Scott Dixon: Honestly, I think it’s a positive change. Last year was a little tough on the crew with the size of the team and the workload. With fewer cars, we can focus more attention on detail and get back to the basics. It’ll allow us to refine setups, make better strategic decisions, and ultimately be stronger as a unit.
Time.news Editor: This season, you have a chance to tie A.J. Foyt’s all-time record for wins in INDYCAR. Is achieving that feat a motivating factor for you?
Scott Dixon: You know, I don’t really think about records too much. I’m focused on winning races and being competitive.
But it would certainly be an amazing achievement to tie A.J.Foyt’s record. He’s an icon in this sport, and to be mentioned alongside his name would be an honor.
Time.news Editor: Looking ahead, what are your expectations for the 2025 season?
Scott Dixon: The fire burns strong. I’m looking forward to getting after it for another year. We have a great team, a fast car, and a lot of unfinished business. I believe we are capable of winning championships.
