This measure seeks to promote the transition towards more sustainable and ecological means of transport.
The Colombian Ministry of Transportation has made new regulations official that will allow the circulation of electric floats for tourist purposes in the different municipalities of the country. This measure seeks to promote the transition towards more sustainable and ecological means of transportation, aligned with national commitments to mitigate environmental impact and promote responsible tourism.
The new regulations are aimed at tourism service providers duly registered in the National Tourism Registry (RNT), who may offer tours on electric floats in urban areas, as long as they comply with the requirements established by the competent authorities. These guidelines also affect traffic authorities, importers and manufacturers of these vehicles, who must ensure that the floats comply with established safety conditions and procedures.

The Ministry of Transportation established that the traffic authorities of each municipality will be responsible for issuing the necessary permits so that electric floats can circulate. The number of operators and sites authorized to provide this service will depend on local regulations, so each municipality must determine how to implement the measure.
In addition to circulation permits, electric floats must be registered with the competent authority and comply with a series of technical and safety requirements. These include the obligation to have personal accident and non-contractual civil liability insurance policies, which will guarantee the protection of passengers and third parties in the event of incidents.
The Vice Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Enríquez Caicedo, highlighted the importance of this initiative for the promotion of sustainable mobility in the country. “This commitment is a reflection of the national government’s commitment to sustainable mobility and a push in the industry to improve the provision of tourist services. We hope that the transformation will allow us to continue providing a timely social consensus in the country,” said Enríquez Caicedo.
With this regulation, the Government seeks not only to improve the offer of tourist services in Colombia, but also to promote the use of clean technologies in transportation, thus contributing to the reduction of polluting gas emissions and the development of more responsible tourism.
