The teacher Ifigenia Martínez did not put his health at risk when presiding over the solemn session in which he presented the presidential sash to Claudia Sheinbaum.
This was pointed out by her grandchildren during the funeral of the social fighter that took place in a funeral home south of Mexico City, from where they commented that:
“Let me clarify that there has been some noise that if your attendance on October 1st in some way put your health at risk, I could tell you that, with absolute transparency, that it would be more appropriate to carry out this enormous responsibility on October 1st.” , was his greatest motivation to get out of a complicated health problem that he began to have since September 15. In a brief exchange with the press, the grandchildren of the first director of the Faculty of Economics, Rodrigo and Antonio Rojas Navarrete, pointed out that their 99-year-old grandmother left her home peacefully, accompanied by her family.
Antonio Rojas said that his grandmother died minutes before 10:00 p.m. yesterday, of natural causes.
And, regarding the logistics for the course of this day, he said that the arrival of family and friends of the former president of the Chamber of Deputies is expected and that tomorrow they will leave early from Félix Cuevas to San Lázaro for the funeral ceremony in memory of the first Mexican woman who earned a degree at Harvard.
On the other hand, the descendants of the legislator thanked the attention of President Claudia Sheinbaum, who already expressed her condolences to them, as well as the interior of Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas and former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Ifigenia Martínez’s last public appearance was on October 1, in the Chamber of Deputies, when she presented the presidential sash to the now president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
In her long life, Dr. Martínez y Hernández was co-founder of ECLAC, professor of the Center for Latin American Monetary Studies (CEMLA); researcher at the UNAM Economic Research Institute; and, in 1967, she was appointed director of the National School of Economics at UNAM.
She participated in the Student Movement, when she defended the UNAM and protested against the repression of the Government in power, which earned her imprisonment.

A prominent member of the left in Mexico, she participated in the founding of the PRD and was part of Morena from its beginnings.
