It is a common belief that sweet foods make people feel better. This is why we crave sweet things when we are tired or stressed.

However, I think you should refrain from eating sweet foods whenever possible. This is because people who prefer sweet foods have been shown to have a higher risk of depression, diabetes, and stroke.

This is the result of a study published in the prestigious journal Journal of Translational Medicine by scholars at the University of Surrey, England.

The researchers collected information on the food preferences of about 180,000 people from the UK Biobank, which contains the medical information of more than 500,000 people, and used artificial intelligence to divide them into three categories:

▽ Health-oriented type: Prefers fruits and vegetables over animal products and sweet foods.
▽ Omnivore: Likes most foods, including meat, fish, some vegetables, cookies, and desserts.
▽ Sweet taste lover type: Prefers sweet foods and drinks and has little interest in healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables.

The researchers looked at UK Biobank data on blood samples measuring 2,923 proteins and 168 metabolites to see how these levels changed in each group.

Lead author Nophar Geifman, Professor of Health and Biomedical Informatics at the University of Surrey, said: “We found that the sweet taste group was 31% more likely to suffer from depression. “We also found that the sweet-loving group had a higher incidence of diabetes and vascular heart disease than the other two groups.”

“Processed sugar is an important element of many people’s diets and these results are further evidence that we need to think carefully before we eat,” he said. “We are not trying to force anyone to do anything, our role is simply to inform people.” “It provides,” he added.

The researchers also looked at differences between the three groups in standard blood biochemistry tests.

Professor Gifman said, “The sweet tooth group had higher levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), an indicator of inflammation. “Also, blood tests showed high glucose levels and poor lipid levels, which are strong warning signs for diabetes and heart disease.”

In contrast, the health-conscious group had a lower risk of heart failure (-14%), chronic kidney disease (-30%), and stroke (-15%), while the omnivorous group had a moderate health risk. For depression, the healthy private group had a 22% lower risk.

Additionally, there was no significant difference in overall cancer risk, the researchers wrote.

Professor Gapeman said, “Foods you like or dislike seem to be directly related to your health. What the results of this study suggest is that if you like foods such as cakes, cookies, and sweet drinks, it can have a negative impact on your health.” said.
