The Cure Preview New Song ‘Warsong’ From Forthcoming Album

by time news

The Cure have released a preview of another new track, ‘Warsong’, building anticipation for their upcoming album, ‘Songs Of A Lost World’.

Dropping this Friday, November 1st, ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ marks the band’s first full-length album since 2008’s ‘4:13 Dream’. Fans have already been treated to two singles, ‘Alone’ and ‘A Fragile Thing’, as well as snippets of other tracks like ‘Drone:NoDrone’ and ‘And Nothing Is Forever’ through the band’s website and a dedicated WhatsApp channel.

The ‘Warsong’ preview starts with atmospheric organ chords and subtle percussion, gradually building to include electric guitar, playful keyboard melodies, and driving drums.

A five-star review from NME describes ‘Warsong’ as a "gloomy" highlight of the album, a "pounding wave of noise" that explores the melancholic theme of "the hope of what we might have been."

In preparation for the album release, The Cure will play an intimate gig at London’s BBC Radio Theatre on October 30th, followed by another smaller show at the Troxy on November 1st. Fans worldwide can watch the Troxy show via a free live stream on YouTube.

Lead singer Robert Smith recently revealed in an extensive interview that The Cure have another finished album ready for release, with a third in the works. He discussed plans for a world tour in 2025 and the band’s upcoming 50th anniversary. Smith also expressed his belief that the band would disband after their 2018 Hyde Park show and criticized dynamic ticket pricing as a "scam" driven by greed. He spoke about the heartbreaking coincidence and loss behind the cover art for ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ and shared the personal story behind the song ‘I Can Never Say Goodbye’, written in memory of his brother.

NME‘s review of ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ hails it as "merciless yet heartfelt," placing these songs among The Cure’s finest. While Smith hinted at two more albums on the horizon, ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ stands as a powerful and deeply personal work, a testament to the enduring influence of Robert Smith and The Cure.
