In addition to being the largest electric vehicle manufacturer in the world and the largest Chinese brand, BYD is firmly betting on entering the European market.

For this reason it chose the Paris Motor Show to present its new model, the Sealeon 7, a model designed for the European market that combines sporting performance, elegant SUV design, cutting-edge 100% electric technology and a spacious cabin with finishes of the highest level.

It is the eighth plug-in model that BYD has launched in Europe and inaugurates the brand’s presence in one of the most popular segments on the European continent, that of SUVs with a sporty image.

With a length of 4,830 mm and a wheelbase of 2,930 mm, it offers maximum peace of mind when tackling long-distance journeys thanks to its fast charging capacity, up to 230 kW, with a maximum speed of 215 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The Sealion 7 is proposed by the Chinese brand to meet the needs of European customers who love technology and are looking for a sports car for the family.

It is based on the company’s next-generation vehicle platform, called e-Platform 3.0. Designed exclusively for electric vehicles, the e-Platform 3.0 incorporates BYD’s revolutionary Blade Battery, technology that has featured in all of the brand’s European launches.

Developed internally by BYD, the Blade Battery is designed to offer class-leading safety, durability, performance and compactness. This technology is incredibly size efficient as it houses more cells in the same space than a conventional battery, allowing for a particularly low battery configuration, which helped BYD engineers and designers optimize the Sealion 7’s cabin space.

Additionally, the Blade Battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) as the cathode material. LFP offers higher levels of safety and durability than lithium-ion batteries, as well as eliminating the reliance on precious materials such as nickel and cobalt, which have raised ethical and environmental concerns in the mining sector.

LFP batteries are also more resistant to extreme temperatures, less sensitive to temperature fluctuations, and can withstand multiple charge and discharge cycles with little loss of capacity, making them particularly durable.

The new Sealion 7 is available in various configurations. In its most powerful version, with two motors and intelligent all-wheel drive, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, while the top speed is 215 km/h. The car can be charged with a maximum power of up to 230 kW.

On the road it has a complete set of safety and driving assistance systems and uses the e-Platform 3.0 architecture to offer a comfortable and sporty ride. Cell to Body technology helps to ensure not only a high level of torsional rigidity, but also a particularly low center of gravity, while the suspension is designed to offer excellent ride comfort as well as a high level of safety.

Handling is further improved with a new Intelligent Torque Distribution System (iTAC), offered on dual-motor and all-wheel drive versions. This system intelligently distributes torque, reducing and even applying negative torque to minimize the risk of slipping.

Its overall length of 4,830 mm, its generous wheelbase of 2,930 mm (10 mm more than the BYD Seal) and the completely flat rear floor enabled by the e-Platform 3.0 create comfortable cabin space for five adults traveling in total comfort. Cell to Body construction and the compact Blade Battery mean the floor is particularly low for a plug-in vehicle with such a high range, allowing it to offer plenty of headroom for rear passengers, despite the roofline falling.

As befits any model in the Ocean series, the dashboard of the Sealion 7 is inspired by the marine world and combines the latest technologies typical of BYD, with fluid shapes and a double-height central console that guarantees great refinement. Even the door handles are designed to give the sensation of having a “floating wing”. The cabin is made from the highest quality materials, with upholstery in vegan or Napa leather, depending on the trim level.

Two interior color finishes are available, complementing the four exterior shades that will be offered.
