Tragic Incident in Vestnes: Man Arrested Following Death of Woman and Injury to Young Child

(Nettavisen): A man in his 20s was arrested near the crime scene.

At a press conference on Tuesday evening, the police confirmed that the deceased is a woman in her 40s, while the injured child is of primary school age.

Police inspector Anders Skorpen Trøen stated that there is a familial relationship between the deceased, the child, and the suspect.

– He will now be taken care of by health services but will be presented for remand detention, says Trøen.

Trøen does not wish to elaborate on the familial relationship of those involved. The man denies committing the actions he is charged with.

Crisis team at the school

The crisis management team in Vestnes will be available at the school on Wednesday, municipal chief Ronny Engan informs NRK.

The injured child attended school in the municipality.

– We will help anyone who needs someone to talk to, says Engan.

The woman and the child were tenants in a house with several apartments. Health personnel and firefighters were alerted by someone in the apartment around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

– She was a pleasant and good woman. It’s terrible what has happened, says the landlord to Romsdals Budstikke.

– Too early to say anything about motive

The injured child is severely injured and is now at St. Olav’s Hospital in Trondheim.

Trøen indicates that it is still too early to say anything about the motive.

Trøen does not wish to comment on the familial relationship of those involved.

Just after 12 o’clock, the police reported that they had arrested a possible perpetrator in Vestnes near the crime scene. The man is charged with gross bodily harm resulting in death and gross bodily harm to the child.
