The 51-year-old Tuchel had been out of work since June when he left Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Tuchel, whose assistant in the England coaching staff will be Anthony Barry, will start working with the national team on January 1. The two specialists previously worked together in the ranks of “Bayern” and “Chelsea” in Munich.
According to the FA, the contracts with the German coach and his English assistant were signed already on October 8, but this was not announced in order not to prevent the national team from playing two matches in the UEFA Nations League.
It has already been reported that the English national team lost to Greece 1-2 (0-0) in the UEFA Nations League B League match under the leadership of interim head coach Lee Carsley last Thursday, but beat Finland 3-1 (1-0) away on Sunday. Carsley will remain with the team until the final two games of the Nations League in November.
Tuchel will become the third foreigner at the helm of the England national team after Swede Sven Jörn Eriksson and Italian Fabio Capello.
The new head coach of the national team in England previously worked with the Premier League club London “Chelsea”, managing it from January 2021 to September 2022, winning the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA World Club Cup with the team.
Tuchel also managed the French football giant Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he won two French championship titles, won the French Cup, the League Cup and the Super Cup, but in the first ten years of his coaching career, he managed the teams in Germany – Dortmund “Borussia”, “Mainz 05” and “Augsburg” second unit.
