The Póvoa de Varzim Municipal Pavilion will host the Futsal Super Cup final on December 28. Sporting CP and SC Braga will compete for the trophy in a match that starts at 8pm.
The Lions reach the Super Cup as national champions, and the Bragaenses are in this big decision after winning the Portuguese Futsal Cup.
Braga is trying to win this trophy for the first time, Sporting, the record holder with 12 victories, is trying for the 13th Super Cup.
Over the years, the Póvoa de Varzim Municipal Pavilion has hosted major national futsal decisions and even National Team matches.
Aires Pereira, president of the City Council of Póvoa de Varzim, emphasizes the passion that people from Póvoa de Varzim have in sport and predicts that he will have strong support in the stands.
“Póvoa de Varzim is a Sport-Friendly Municipality, structurally – because residents practice it regularly (whether in competition or active leisure – and in a significant variety of modalities); and because, in support of this unequivocal popular choice, the municipality. implemented, throughout its territory, a network of sports equipment, of high technical quality, which favors competitive practice and physical exercise, accepting Sports as an instrument of territorial integration and social inclusion”, said the mayor, quoted by FPF.
“The practice of sport leads to sportsmanship, understood as respect for others and openness to difference – attitudes and moral values that are urgently needed, because they are increasingly scarce these days, to rescue .This is a mission that Sport is committed to, as it contributes more and urgently to a society where tolerance and (why not?) brotherhood prevails, so that they return more often”, he said.
José Neves, president of AF Porto, is happy that the event will take place again in his association.
“It is with great pleasure that we received the news that the Futsal Super Cup will be played in Póvoa de Varzim. This event is one of the highlights of the national futsal calendar and I believe once again that the sport and all the participants will be there. We are confident that the city will host the final and the passion and enthusiasm that characterizes our spectators”, said the sports director

How does the local community’s support influence the performance of teams in high-stakes futsal matches?
Interview Between Time.news Editor and Futsal Expert
Time.news Editor (TNE): Thank you for joining us today! We’re excited about the upcoming Futsal Super Cup final between Sporting CP and SC Braga on December 28 at the Póvoa de Varzim Municipal Pavilion. Can you give us your initial thoughts on this match?
Futsal Expert (FE): Absolutely! This final is set to be a thrilling encounter. Sporting CP, being the reigning champions, comes in as strong favorites with their impressive history of 12 Super Cup wins. SC Braga, on the other hand, will be eager to clinch this title for the first time, which adds an intriguing dynamic to the match.
TNE: Indeed, it’s a clash of history versus aspiration. Sporting is looking for their 13th title, and Braga is hungry for their first. How do you see both teams preparing for such a significant match?
FE: Both teams likely have differing approaches. Sporting, with their rich experience in high-stakes matches, will leverage their tactical knowledge and skill from a more seasoned squad. SC Braga, however, has momentum on their side after winning the Portuguese Futsal Cup, which could boost their confidence. They’ll need to harness that intensity and channel it effectively against a team with such a formidable record.
TNE: The Póvoa de Varzim Municipal Pavilion has hosted many important futsal events before. How do you think the venue will contribute to the atmosphere of the final?
FE: The pavilion has a vibrant history, known for being a hotspot for futsal in Portugal. The fans there are passionate, and with the city being recognized as a “Sport-Friendly Municipality,” I expect a strong turnout. Aires Pereira, the president of the City Council, highlighted the community’s enthusiasm for sports, and that energy will undoubtedly create an electric atmosphere for the players. Home crowd support can be a game-changer.
TNE: That’s a great point. The engagement of the local community seems pivotal. What role do you think sports, especially futsal, play in the social fabric of Póvoa de Varzim?
FE: Sports act as an incredible unifier. In Póvoa de Varzim, the municipality promotes physical activity and competitive play, which encourages social inclusion and community involvement. As Pereira stated, with a network of high-quality sports facilities, residents not only participate but build a sense of belonging and pride. Futsal, as a localized favorite, embodies that passion and plays a crucial role in the community’s identity.
TNE: Futsal is known for its fast pace and skillful play. What specific strategies do you think each team will bring to this match, considering their strengths?
FE: Sporting CP will likely rely on their well-drilled tactics and individual flair, focusing on quick transitions and exploiting any defensive lapses from Braga. Conversely, Braga may adopt a more resilient approach, trying to maintain possession and control the pace of the game. They might look to capitalize on set pieces or counter-attacks to catch Sporting off guard.
TNE: It sounds like fans are in for a treat! what’s your prediction for this match? Who do you think will come out on top?
FE: It’s a tough call! If I had to choose, I’d lean slightly towards Sporting CP given their pedigree and experience. However, if SC Braga plays to the peak of their potential and harnesses that underdog motivation, they could surprise everyone. Ultimately, the excitement of futsal is that anything can happen, especially in a cup final!
TNE: Thank you for your insights! We’re all looking forward to an exciting finale on December 28. It looks like it’s going to be a memorable event for both teams and the city!
