The Lebanese Hezbollah announced on Monday that it carried out a “qualitative” missile strike on a naval base near the city of Haifa in northern Israel.
A Hezbollah statement said that its fighters fired “a qualitative missile salvo at the Stella Maris naval base northwest of Haifa.”
Hezbollah said: “At 6:20 pm today, Monday, its fighters bombed “the occupied city of Safed with a large missile launcher.”
The party’s statement added, “The bombing comes in support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance, in defense of Lebanon and its people, and in response to the barbaric Israeli occupation of cities, villages, and civilians.”
The Israeli army reported that “a drone attack launched by Hezbollah targeted the Halevy military training base in northern Israel, and described the attack as a “dangerous matter with painful consequences.”
The Home Front in Israel announced “sounding sirens to warn of the launching of rockets and missiles in Safed and its suburbs. The warning included the areas of Safed, Tiberias, Meron, Bar Yochai, Kahal, Amiyad, and Vered Hagalil,” and Israeli sources said, “Hezbollah targeted the Meron military base in northern Israel.”
In this context, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, during his inspection of the “Golani Brigade” camp the day after it was subjected to an attack by “Hezbollah” with a drone, which resulted in the death of 4 recruits and the wounding of dozens: “His army will continue to strike “Hezbollah” without mercy in all parts of the world. Lebanon and even in Beirut.”
The sound of sirens caused more than two million Israelis to flee to shelters and fortified places to protect themselves from the falling missiles.
Yesterday, 3 people were killed and 67 injured as a result of a drone explosion in Binyamina, south of Haifa.
