The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Song Mi-ryeong, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs), together with the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and eight women farmers’ organizations, will hold a commemorative event for the “3rd Women Farmers’ Day” at the main auditorium of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation on Tuesday, October 15. In particular, as this commemorative event is held by the first female minister in the history of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, interest from the agricultural and political circles is greater than ever.
‘Women Farmers’ Day’ will be celebrated as a legal anniversary in November 2021 (every October 15) with the purpose of publicizing the activities of female farmers who are playing a pivotal role in agriculture and rural areas, and to boost morale and pride. It was enacted.
This event, which is in its third year this year, is titled ‘Women farmers, the power of rural areas! Under the theme ‘Light of Agriculture’, it will emphasize the importance of female farmers who are committed to protecting rural communities and creating a sustainable future for agriculture.
About 200 people, including female farmers, the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Chairman of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, and members of the National Assembly, will attend the event, and it will be held with a variety of contents, including awards to female farmers for their contributions, introduction of activities by female farmer groups, and congratulatory performances for farmers.
In the political world, in addition to a congratulatory message from the Chairman of the Fishing Organization, Agriculture and Fisheries Committee, Rep. Jeong Hee-yong (People Power Party), Seo Sam-seok (Democratic Party of Korea), and Rep. Lim Mi-ae (Democratic Party of Korea) are scheduled to attend and deliver congratulatory messages in person.
In particular, at this event, the heads of eight women farmers’ organizations read the ‘Resolution on Women Farmers of the Republic of Korea’, declaring that women farmers are proudly playing a leading role in agricultural production and the local community, and suggesting a direction for the future of agriculture and rural areas.
Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Mi-ryeong said, “We will continue to provide generous support at the government level so that female farmers can lead happy lives in rural areas and actively participate as key players in agriculture.”
Participating organizations include the Korean Federation of Women Farmers, Korea Federation of Life Improvement Associations, National Federation of Women Farmers’ Associations, National Federation of Farm Housewives, Korea Agricultural and Food Women CEO Central Federation, Middle-aged Female Farmer CEO Central Federation, Young Women Farmers Cooperative, and National Women Farmers and Fishermen Center. Meanwhile, the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service (Director Seong-Woo Park, hereinafter referred to as the National Agricultural Service) is conducting a ‘safety planning survey’ to supply safe kimchi vegetables in celebration of the kimchi season.
This survey will be conducted from October 15 to November 30 (7 weeks), and 700 samples will be collected and analyzed focusing on the main production complex for each item of kimchi vegetables such as cabbage, radish, green onion, garlic, ginger, pepper, mustard, etc. Do it.
Sample analysis checks for the presence of more than 463 types of pesticides, and non-conforming agricultural products that exceed the acceptable standards are blocked from distribution in the market by taking measures such as delaying shipment or discarding at the production site.
In addition, the Rural Development Institute is making efforts to ensure that safe agricultural products are grown and supplied by providing guidance on the overall safe use standards for pesticides, such as how to check pesticides that can be used for each item, dilution ratio, and spraying method, to farms where nonconformities occur.
