This journey begins in the mysterious land of Namibia.
Let’s go to the Namib Desert, where the unreal sea of red sand spreads out! Before leaving for the desert, start your journey by renting a car in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. After packing up our camping gear, we headed down the dirt road to Sesriem, the gateway to the Namib Desert. But did Koreans say rice? Before arriving at the desert, take a break at Solitaire, a small town with a rest area, and taste apple pie.
The first attraction we arrived at after driving hard with driver John was Sesriem Canyon, a place boasting magnificent scenery. Big Daddy Dune, which we visited next while retaining the thrill of the canyon, is a must-see course in the Namib Desert, boasting an overwhelming height of about 325m. It is a difficult journey that requires breaking through strong winds and the African sun, but you can look forward to what the desert landscape will be like from the top of Big Daddy. After running down the steep Big Daddy sand dunes, we arrived at Deadvlei, a dry lake. Deadvlei, with its dry white floor and dead trees that have turned into fossils, boasts a unique landscape that makes you feel like you are on another planet.
A long line of vehicles lined up in front of Sesriem Gate from early in the morning before the sun rose. They say it’s to head to Dune 45, the famous sunrise spot in the Namib Desert! What will the sunrise view of Dune 45 dune be like after rushing up?
After leaving the desert, we headed to Opuwo, a small city in northern Namibia! Opuwo is a city well known for the Herero people, who have a painful history, and the Himba people, who are famous for painting their bodies red. After a brief encounter with Herero women wearing colorful clothes, we continue our journey to Himba Village. The Himba people, who boast a unique appearance by applying red clay called Otjize, which is made by mixing stone powder and milk fat, show a warm side that welcomes foreigners. Curator Lee Gwang-ju and the Himba people dance together at the welcome ceremony, eat together, and share affection. We end our journey in a warm atmosphere by scooping water together and sharing gifts.
