If you feel sad that the hot summer is gone, let’s take a trip with cinematographer Kim Jeong-san to the unique charm of Taiwan that you can’t see anywhere else!

Taiwan, an island that rose tall in the middle of the ocean due to tectonic activity a long time ago. There are 268 peaks over 3,000 meters above sea level, standing shoulder to shoulder. Among them, Wisan (玉山), the highest peak in Northeast Asia, is located at 3,952 meters above sea level.

The 11 peaks surrounding the highest peak are all over 3,000m, so you can enjoy spectacular views no matter where you climb, so there are a lot of hikers who take up the challenge all year round, but it is also a place where you can only climb if the weather cooperates. What peak did the curator climb? The mountain is made up of canyons and cliffs and is rugged, so it is essential to be accompanied by a mountain guide. We finally faced Wisan after climbing up with both hands and feet, holding on to the chain attached to the steep rocky path! The scenery of clouds covering the vast mountain range of Wisan Mountain evokes admiration.

Tainan, Taiwan’s first capital, is a city with a long history. Shennong Street has been adjacent to Tainan’s port since the Qing Dynasty. From once bustling streets, people now flock to alleys filled with vintage charm. Take a walk along the beautiful night streets of Seonnongjie, where red lanterns light up every corner of the street.

The next day, the charming Tainan journey continues to the vast and unique Chaoshan Moon World. The Chaosan Moon World is made of chalky soil with steep cliffs that resemble the surface of the moon. The sight of bamboo shining green in an environment where it is difficult for plants to grow is a masterpiece created by nature.

Next, head to Alishan National Scenic Area (阿里山國家風景區), a representative tourist destination and one of Taiwan’s eight scenic spots. At the tea plantation rest observatory while walking along Eryanping Road, you can see the spectacular view of clouds rolling in like waves on Ali Mountain beyond the quiet tea fields. The Alishan Forest Railway, which was installed by Japan for logging during the Japanese colonial period, has a painful history. Currently, the train is crowded with tourists who come to see the sunrise of Alishan in the early morning. Enjoy the sunrise after getting off at Zhushan Station, the highest train station in Taiwan, located at 2451m above sea level! As I watch the sun rise against Alishan in the background, I am once again reminded of the emotion that Taiwan’s famous mountain gave me.
