● Thoughts on winning
Writing has always been a light that protects me, and I followed that light. For me, writing is a tool and friend for self-discipline. From a young age, it was a means of relieving the loneliness and weight of my heart, and as an adult, it became a part of my life to make a living through practical writing. However, even in the rational and systematic writings, the literary craving did not cease. Although it was difficult to achieve, that desire hidden deep in my heart eventually became reality in the new horizon of picture books and verse.
At the end of October, the first picture book I wrote came out. Around that time, my interest in various types of verse deepened, and I attempted to write sijo. However, because I had the desire to write, I wrote it arbitrarily without properly understanding the form. After writing a few episodes, I realized that I had not even followed the basic format of the first 3 letters of the final chapter, and I remember blushing and feeling embarrassed.
I am surprised and grateful to have been selected for the Spring Literary Contest with my first poem written in a correct format. Since I have walked the path of literature alone, I do not have any teachers or scholars, but there are precious people I have met along my journey of life. I cannot forget my life partner Ryu Min-jeong, the late Managing Director Park Hee-seop, my boss during my time at Samsung Electronics, and the generous understanding of my family and acquaintances who tolerated my immaturity in the past, especially Hwang Jae-seon, Kim Ji-hyeon, Kim Woo-seung, and CEO Lee Jeong-gyu. We would also like to express our gratitude to Spring Sunshine Book Publishing and Jecheon Cultural Foundation. Lastly, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Dong-A Ilbo and the judges who chose my work with trust and encouragement.
The path of literature is a journey of endless training. Although we have a late start, we hope to make even more progress and make a small contribution to the blossoming of the beauty of our literature. I will learn with a humble heart and do my best to write works that resonate with truth. At the end of this road, I want to leave a piece of writing that will be a warm light for someone.

● Review
Literature is the work of reaching readers by putting serious thoughts and thoughts about life on printed letters. So, the common thought of the judges was that it must be read well first and foremost. In addition, we expected an appropriate resonance for the times. Among the many works submitted this year, those that required in-depth reading until the end were ‘Seogwipo Sea Where Tangerine Blossoms Bloom’, ‘The Tree Didn’t Bury the Butterfly’, ‘Market Alley Noodle House’, and ‘Hospice’. And it was ‘insulation’. ‘Seogwipo Sea Where Tangerine Blossoms Bloom’ was a work that was easy to read. However, the shortcomings in this poet’s unique personality could not be overlooked.
‘The Tree Didn’t Bury the Butterfly’ stood out in terms of lyricism, but it lacked the resonance of the times underlying it. ‘Hospice’ stood out for its sparkling metaphors and delicacy of language, but it was disappointing in terms of resonance to be good as a winning work. ‘Market Alley Noodle House’ was an appropriate landscape painting to depict our harsh reality. The melody was natural and the work was easy to read, so I had to re-read it several times. However, it was judged to be lacking in terms of intensity or novelty.
In the end, this year’s luck went to ‘insulation’. The motif of a broken wire desperately expresses the current family scene where internal communication is cut off. Unstable politics, an economy highly dependent on external forces, and complex international relations amidst inter-Korean standoff are the realities given to us. In this situation, the conflict between families evoked in this work was able to feel serious weight in that it shows our already messy today and at the same time urges introspection. I hope that he will work harder and become a great poet who will open the future of our Sijo.
