Watan Al-Youm: The Director General of the Social Security Corporation, Dr. Muhammad Saleh Al-Tarawneh, delivered a lecture to students in the joint (63) Command and Staff Course (27), at the Royal Jordanian Command and Staff College, which includes a number of students from brotherly and friendly countries, entitled “The Social Security Corporation social security and its role in social security and the development of the Jordanian national economy.”
Dr. Tarawneh emphasized that the Social Security Institution pays great attention to the royal directives related to the axis of social protection and implements them through clear and effective initiatives and policies so that they are an essential part of its strategic plan, which is reflected in the strategic initiatives and tasks implemented by the institution, including coordination with all official and private sectors, especially since His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein stressed the need to provide more comprehensive and expanded protection tools and programs to help the poor groups become productive and economically active, as well as His Majesty stressing the importance of the participation of social protection institutions in the public and private sectors in this effort.
He explained that the Social Security Institution plays a fundamental role within the social protection axis, supporting government efforts to strengthen social protection programs and their positive repercussions on members of society and the workforce, especially since His Majesty the King affirmed that the social protection axis should be an essential part of the economic and administrative modernization paths as a national priority to ensure better protection. For groups most affected by economic conditions.
He added that one of the Foundation’s strategic objectives is to expand the scope of the social protection umbrella by including new groups in the social security umbrella, such as workers in the informal sector, in order to provide them with social protection through the introduction of a set of programs, policies and procedures that ensure that no worker within the informal sector remains out of the country. The insurance umbrella, pointing out that this trend enhances national efforts with social protection programmes.
Dr. Tarawneh said that the Social Security has disbursed the equivalent of approximately one billion and six hundred million Jordanian dinars in the form of social protections, of which the pension bill constitutes (90%), stressing that the institution is part of the social protection system and a safety valve for members of society through what it does. By allocating salaries to workers, retirees, and heirs, and the insurance benefits it allocates to contributors.
Dr. Tarawneh emphasized the depth of the participatory relationship between the Armed Forces and the Social Security Corporation, indicating that the amendments to the pension of the military insured are calculated based on the last wage he received, whatever its value, which is one of the privileges granted to military contributors.
Al-Tarawneh explained that the institution bears a great responsibility towards the contributors, retirees and their beneficiaries, and we take into account that social security revenues through employee contributions and investment returns must be sufficient to pay the expenses incurred on pensions and the insurance benefits provided by the security law.
