– 2024-05-08 14:16:35″>Hurricane Oscar as it passed through eastern Cuba in the last few hours. Currently, the system is located about 75 kilometers northwest of Guantánamo.
In that sense, they indicated that in that town in eastern Cuba more than 1,000 homes were affected with damages of varying magnitudes after the heavy rains and winds caused by Hurricane Oscar.
Through a post published in the profile of the “Presidency of Cuba”, it was stated that the greatest damage was recorded in the municipalities of Baracoa, Imías and Maisí, where large-scale flooding was reported.
Likewise, they added that homes, workplaces, covered cultivation houses, and power lines suffered damage caused by the heavy rains and winds generated by the system.
In images published on social networks by local Guantánamo media you can see some of the damage caused by the hurricane.
According to the information disseminated by the dictatorship’s social networks, residents of the flooded areas had to be evacuated.
It is worth remembering that this natural phenomenon made landfall in Cuba on Sunday in the east, generating strong winds and rainfall, generating concern in the population that was already suffering from the lack of electricity after the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) collapsed last Friday the 18th. October leaving the island in darkness.
In the last few hours, the United States government indicated that it is “closely monitoring” what is happening in Cuba in the midst of the blackout and the impact of Hurricane Oscar in the east of the island, and did not rule out sending aid to the Cubans, if the regime requests it.
