11th round of the Super League – 0:2 in Lugano: YB back to the old ways – Sport

by time news

The effect of the coaching change seems to have already worn off for the Young Boys. Although the Bernese were able to win the first game under interim coach Joël Magnin against Lucerne a week ago, the champions ended up back down in Lugano. The Bernese suffered their 6th defeat against an effective Ticino side and are still stuck in the lower reaches of the table.

YB, who currently have no fewer than five defensive defeats, were unable to keep a clean sheet in their 11th game of the season. It took 18 minutes in Lugano before David von Ballmoos had to give him a goal for the first time. Ignacio Aliseda caught the YB keeper with a well placed shot from the edge of the penalty area in the bottom left corner.

Fifteen minutes later, Aliseda found herself in the role of the preparer. The Argentine used his speed to assert himself on the left and sent the ball to the unmarked Mohamed Belhadj Mahmoud. Von Ballmoos’ legs were still there when the Tunisian finished, but the 29-year-old was unable to prevent the score from going 0-2.

YB thoughts

Apart from the score, YB were level in the first half. In the 26th minute, the visitors from Bern also had the equalizer twice. Amir Saipi first tackled Joël Monteiro, Filip Ugrinic’s brilliant follow-up effort was blocked by a defender. Later, Cedric Itten’s header was denied by Saipi (35′).

Coach Magnin tried to bring new motivation from the bench after the break, but apart from a promising header from Itten (72nd), the Bernese team remained mostly harmless in the second half. The Ticino team managed to get the better of them without any problems and are back celebrating after two games without a win. Thanks to the 6th overall success, coach Mattia Croci-Torti’s team is closing in on FCZ second place in terms of points.
