The officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IOM welcomed the Bangladeshis returning to Libya at the airport

150 irregular Bangladeshis stuck in Libya have returned home. They were brought back to Bangladesh on a chartered Burak Air flight around 6:15 am on Thursday (October 10).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that 150 stranded irregular Bangladeshis willing to return home voluntarily from Tripoli and its neighboring areas have been repatriated to Bangladesh on a chartered flight in cooperation with the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Each repatriate is provided by IOM with some food items worth Rs 6,000, medical treatment and temporary accommodation if necessary.

Foreign Ministry and IOM officials welcomed these returning Bangladeshis at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Most of the repatriated Bangladeshis on these flights entered Libya at the instigation and cooperation of human traffickers with the intention of going illegally to Europe by sea. Most of them were abducted and tortured at various times in Libya. Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged them to be aware that no one should go to Libya through that terrible route.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh Embassy and International Migration Organization are working tirelessly together to arrange the safe repatriation of Bangladeshi citizens detained in various detention centers in Libya.
