Within the framework of this investment, the construction and commissioning of facilities for the storage of electricity from renewable sources (RES) with a minimum of 3,000 megawatt-hours of usable energy capacity, connected to the electricity transmission and distribution networks on the territory of Bulgaria, is supported.
“I am satisfied with the serious interest in the construction of RES energy storage facilities. This is a guarantee of a notable increase in the share of energy from renewable sources in the energy mix, fully in line with the challenges related to the European “Green Deal” and the carbon-free future of the energy sector. The successful implementation of battery projects will significantly contribute to the security of the energy system in Bulgaria and in the region,” commented Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov.
The investments under the procedure must be completed and the facilities put into operation by March 2026. In May 2025 the degree of maturity of the projects and their implementation will be checked, the Ministry of Energy notes.
