That meant an increase of more than 32 percent and thus almost a third more new cases compared to Wednesday than the previous year’s high of 6,506 cases.

The previous high in the corona pandemic was 9,586 on November 13, 2020 at the beginning of the second lockdown. One is no longer far from it. The increasingly worrying number of infections is accompanied by further significant increases in hospital numbers. 1,826 Covid-19 patients were treated in hospitals on Thursday, 74 more than the previous day. Intensive medical care now required 352 Covid-19 sufferers, an increase of 19 within one day. The intensive Covid cases have increased by almost a third within a week – in absolute numbers by 87.

To correct the data, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health stated in a press release: “Due to technical difficulties, the total number of confirmed cases was corrected and the total number of recovered cases in Upper Austria was corrected.” In Upper Austria alone, 2,317 new cases were registered within 24 hours on Thursday. There were 1,518 new cases in Lower Austria, 1,453 in Vienna, 1,101 in Styria, 702 in Salzburg, 586 in Tyrol, 402 in Carinthia, 343 in Vorarlberg and 172 in Burgenland.
